Dr. Deidra Thompson is DE-MSN Faculty at Joyce University.
Deidra has been educating nursing students since 2018 at the master’s and bachelor’s level. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Deidra’s nursing experience includes labor and delivery, medical-surgical, correctional medicine, geriatrics, and mental health. She currently practices as both a family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She provides care in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as the Employee Assistance Program.
Deidra holds a degree in nursing from Excelsior College, an MS in nursing with a Family Nurse practitioner specialty from Alcorn State University, a post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Doctor of Nurse Practice from Walden University.
Deidra appreciates seeing students realize that nursing is both an art and a science. Working in education gives Deidra the opportunity to help prepare the next generation of nurses who will impact individuals, families, and communities.
Deidra’s research includes identifying and minimizing barriers to Human Papillomavirus vaccination in adolescents.
Deidra serves on the board for the Mississippi Sleep Society. Her professional memberships include the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Mississippi Nurses Association.
