Dr. Marcia Smythe is an online nursing professor at Joyce University.
Marcia has taught across the nursing curriculum in ASN, BSN, and MSN nursing programs. She is a certified nurse educator (CNE) and has been in nursing education for more than 20 years. She has taught at Herzing University, American National University, Seminole State College, Orange Technical School, Technical Education Center of Osceola, and Valencia Community College. She also served as the assistant director of nursing at Lincoln Technical Institute.
Marcia’s nursing journey began over 30 years ago with specialties in medical-surgical, peritoneal dialysis, critical care ventilator dependent patients, and diabetes. She has been in leadership roles as a charge nurse and as an assistant Director of Nursing.
Marcia is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, Black Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, Student Nurse Association Faculty Advisor, Association of Practical Nurse Educator of Florida, Florida Board of Nursing, NurseTim INC, Organization for Associate Degree Nursing, and American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
Marcia holds a DNP from American Sentinel University, an MSN from the University of Phoenix, a BSN from the College of New Rochelle, and an ADN from Bronx Community College. She is also a certified nurse educator (CNE).
Marcia likes the transition moment when a student who has struggled with different concepts understands the training and is able to apply new knowledge to nursing practices. Marcia enjoys teaching a new generation of students to become safe entry-level nurses.
Marcia enjoys visiting with family members and cooking.
